The Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina presented the country's foreign trade exchange for 2024, highlighting key trading partners and trends. Bosnia and Herzegovina achieved a total trade volume of 45.7 billion BAM, with exports of 16.5 billion BAM (down 3.64%) and imports of 29.2 billion BAM (up 3.35%). This resulted in a trade deficit of 12.6 billion BAM.
The decline in exports is attributed to Bosnia and Herzegovina's heavy reliance on the European market, which is experiencing economic slowdown and internal weaknesses. Leading export markets include Germany, Croatia, Italy, Austria, and Serbia. The EU remains the primary export destination, accounting for 72.6% of total exports.
Key export products include insulated wire, electricity, and iron/steel structures, while major imports are petroleum oils, passenger cars, and medicines. Croatia is Bosnia and Herzegovina's largest trading partner.
Most sectors saw a decrease in exports and an increase in imports, with the agro-industrial and food sector having the largest deficit. The metal and electrical sectors dominate exports, while the automotive and defense industries showed positive growth.
The Foreign Trade Chamber emphasized the need to improve the business environment and enhance cooperation between the chamber and government institutions to address challenges such as the green transition, circular economy, and global economic turbulence.
